River Legacy is a beautiful and well maintained park that Arlington residents have come to love over the years—and for good reason. Pristine picnic areas, safe playgrounds and paved trails for hiking, cycling, or just strolling through are just a few of the free activities that citizens can enjoy.
If you’re not a regular visitor to River Legacy, you may think that’s all the park has to offer. Au contraire! Nothing could be further from the truth. There’s a plethora of activities available in the park and most of them are absolutely free. Here are just a few of the free activities available at River Legacy just for the month of September.
At 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 7th, a River Legacy naturalist will be your guide as you explore the life of native animals live. The admission is free, but donations are also accepted. It’s a great way for kids to learn about native animals and how they live in the wild.
Backyard Composting Classes
Every second Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., River Legacy hosts the City of Arlington Master Composter as they instruct citizens on how to build a proper composting pile and how to compost with worms. Everyone who attends receives a free book on composting. Even if you already know how to compost feel free to come by and ask questions of the Master Composter.
Water Awareness Through Education and Recreation (WATER) is a free activity on Saturday, September 14th for the entire family. Come celebrate water with family-friendly activities and crafts along with demonstrations at River Legacy Living Science Center.
Come along with a Master Naturalist and enjoy a hike deep into the park. The hike begins and ends at the Science Center and is led at a slow pace so that everyone can get a good look at the flora and fauna. The hike begins at 8:00 a.m. and is suited for those 12 and up. Saturday Story Time
If your little ones aren’t old enough to enjoy the nature hike, they’re the perfect age for story time. Saturday, September 21st at 11:00 a.m. is story time at the River Legacy Living Science Center. Make reservations by calling (817)860-6752 to ensure your child’s place for this librarian-run activity.
Sustainable Landscapes with Native Plants
The North Texas Native Plant Society plays host on Saturday, September 28th at the River Legacy Living Science Center. At 10:00 a.m., everyone who wants to learn how to create a healthy habitat in their home with native plants is welcomed to this free event. This fun activity is recommended for everyone aged 10 and up, and donations are accepted for this free activity.
There’s a new event every Saturday at River Legacy for active and curious families to enjoy. Why not make a Saturday outing tradition with your family to learn more about the world around you? River Legacy is the spot for learning and fun, no matter what your budget may be.
