Need a little motivation to run? Looking for some fun you can sink your teeth into? Then fleeing from vampires should give you all the incentive you need to complete this race to benefit the American Red Cross, and is open to everyone 10 and older. The terror begins at 5:00 p.m. at Fair Park in Dallas and continues into the evening. Did we mention there will be a full moon to make things extra spooky?
How it works:
The Vampire 5K is a unique run that pits Vampires and Citizens against each other in a race to survive.
- Sign up by April 24th as either a Citizen or a vampire
- Arrive at 5:00 to pick up race packets and enter the “transformation” center
- The run begins at dusk under a full moon
- Citizens and vampires start in different areas and then meet in an undisclosed location
Once the Citizens and Vampires converge, the fun begins. Vampires try to “convert” Citizens by pulling off the white “garlic flags” that Citizens will be carrying, as they race through fog and red powder zones to give the event a creepy feel. The event is followed up with a Red Dusk after-party for all participants.
Citizen or Vampire: Which “type” are you?
Do you run best while being chased? Do you look great in white? Then you’ll want to register as a Citizen. If you crave the darkness and the thrill of the hunt, a Vampire clan is something you can really “sink your teeth into.”
Everyone gets to choose whether they wish to register as a Citizen or a Vampire. All citizens wear white and carry “garlic flags,” while all vampires will wear black. The groups will not see each other before the race and the starting locations are held in separate locations.
Registration closes on April 24th. There’s no race day registration, so you need to register now to ensure your spot. Registration is $60 per person, but you can save in the following ways:
- Register on April 20th between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the Sports Authority, 9100 North Central Expressway #123 to save $15
- Donate blood and register to save $25 off the online registration fees
- Register and pay for 4 or more people at once and save $5 each
- “Like” them on Facebook to save $15
If you shy from running like a vampire from a clove of garlic, you can still join in the fun with a Spectator/Party pass that includes a T-shirt and entry into the after-party, along with one free drink. The party promises to be “to die for” and will feature music, dancing and red beverages.
So whether you’re looking for a fun way to get your exercise in or a way to meet interesting young people outside of the bar scene, come on down to the Vampire Run 5K. It promises to be ghoulish fun!
